This will be, I promise, a short report, unlike the Gilboa missive! Fantasy Island Resort...an all inclusive in Roatan, was a lovely place to stay. There are bunnies that run up to you to be petted when you call them, there are little deer and 4 large macaws, 2 green parrots and a racoon. The only difficulty you could run into, is the little plane you take from San Pedro airport to the island which is sometimes delayed due to the weather. They are always looking for the window of opportunity in the weather to fly the half hour either there or back so some Texans spent 2 days in San Pedro hoping the window would open soon! We were lucky! Other than the occasional pocket of weather on the flight back, (whoooops), we flew at 7000 feet with no problem..there is seating for about 15 people and their luggage on the plane. |

On the down side, January is 'rainy season' and rain it did...we had 1 and 1/2 days of sunshine, the rest of the time was warm and wet. Not that it matters when you're under the water, of course. When you are on the beach, very strong bug repellent is required...they have tiny little 'no-see-ums' that are extremely voracious, and the little suckers managed to chew chunks out of me and my dive buddy whenever they got the chance. |
At this time of the year, it was all inclusive...3 tank boat dives every day, unlimited shore diving and some totally awesome dive personel. The 4 large boats are covered so there is no problem with heat stroke, if the sun really does shine down there!! Towels are supplied on the boat. | |
| We managed 14 fabulous dives and saw some really big green morays, free swimming and smiling, plus some fish that only exits there (Indigo Hamlets and Yellow Hamlets) Very cool! Unlike Cozumel, you assemble your own gear, but there is comfort in doing that! I should mention that the food was great, all local booze is included (rum drinks and beer) and the staff at the resorts were second to none. Well worth the $1200.00 outlay. |  |

We made 10 new wonderful friends. We hooked up with 4 guys and a gal from Windsor, a couple from Ottawa and 2 ladies from Toronto. The 12 of us were inseparable, from down under, to happy hours, to every meal adventure! What a blast!! Absolutely fabulous people and an awesome time was had by all in spite of the rain and bugs.
